This map illustrates the jurisdiction of Tayabas Province, which includes Marinduque as one of its towns. Marinduque initially had its own Governor overseeing a sub-government under Tayabas (now Quezon) starting in 1902, and later became an independent provincial government in 1920 after separating from Tayabas.

The Governor is supported by the Vice Governor who leads the Marinduque Provincial Board. In June 1902, the US-Philippine Commission incorporated the islands of Mindoro (now two distinct provinces) and Lubang (now part of Occidental Mindoro) into the province. Four months later, on November 10th, Marinduque was added to the province of Tayabas (now Quezon) through Act No. 499. Finally, on February 21, 1920, the Philippine Congress passed Act No. 2280, officially reestablishing Marinduque as an independent province.
